August 2020 Virtual coalition meeting
Forty members of the coalition joined us for our first virtual meeting of 2020! On Thursday, August 27th we met to discuss updates on affordable housing options, economic development, and transportation that @Home in Adams County and our partners have been working on since our last meeting in February.
February 2020 Coalition Meeting
In February, @Home invited Stacy Newcomer and Heather Klinefelter of Commuter Services of PA (CSPA) to present to the group. Stacy and Heather discussed how they are working to serve and engage Adams County residents and invite local organizations or businesses to join one of CSPA’s interactive programs. One of the objectives of CSPA is to support commuters in helping them transition to a greener commute mode. Not only would this be better for the environment, but it also opens up new opportunities for increased access to alternative travel options for working residents in Adams County.
December 2019 Coalition Meeting
In December, @Home focused on engaging discussions surrounding economic development and the workforce in Adams County. Robin Fitzpatrick of Adams Economic Alliance and Gary Laird of the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce lead us in these discussions and provided information to help the coalition better identify the ways to best advocate for economic development with a focus of keeping the benefit of the whole community at the heart of each effort.
August 2019 Coalition Meeting
In August, @Home invited Hellen Kelley of Diana T. Myers and Associates, Inc. to present information on SHARE and ECHO (Elder Cottage Housing Opportunity) housing opportunities with a focus on partnership with @Home and updates regarding the development of this plan. Representatives in the County for housing, transportation, and economic development identify progress and updates in these areas calling coalition members to action, encouraging all to advocate on behalf of these efforts.
June 2019 Coalition Meeting
In June, Robin Fitzpatrick of Adams Economic Alliance informs the group on the importance of advocacy and suggests to coalition members, appropriate action to take within a municipality. For example, attending municipal meetings to advocate for beneficial developments within a community. Harlan Lawson of Adams County Planning Commission joins us to talk about household income, median wage, and commute times in Adams County. With this information, coalition members are encouraged to consider the ways in which low wages and long commute times contribute to disinvestment in the community.
April 2019 Coalition Meeting
In April, a community member with lived experience shares a personal story relating to the lack of affordable housing in Adams County in an effort to increase awareness and understanding within the coalition. Harlan Lawson and Robin Fitzpatrick update the group on their efforts in facilitating outreach about zoning and policy to all 34 municipalities in Adams County. Coalition members collaboratively decide how the coalition should be structured, how often to meet, and are encouraged to think about what other outside groups might be recruited to join the coalition.
April 2019 Post Housing Summit
At the beginning of April, coalition members meet for the first time after the 2019 Housing Summit held in March. Here, members discuss priorities to address moving forward and the areas in which planning processes could develop differently in preparation for future Summit events. Members also identified action steps for each partner involved with the coalition and how each can work to support the growth and promotion of the @Home in Adams County Initiative.
